MOST POWERFUL COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD 2021

The military strength ranking brings the USA in the first place of the list, the Russia second, the China third and India fourth.


The Global Firepower utilizes over 50 individual factors to determine a given nation’s Power Index (PwrIndx) score with categories ranging from military might and financials to logistical capability and geography.

United States 

The USA is ranked first out of 139 countries holding a PwrIndx rating of 0.0718. The United States retains its top spot as the undisputed military power in the world – both numerically and technologically. And it certainly spends more on its military budget than any other country. Total military personnel of USA is estimated at about 2,245,500, while the airpower total strength is 13,233, the highest among the 139 countries of the list.

The US Military is equipped with the most advanced tanks, aircrafts, Submarines, and ships. Along with the advanced technology.

Russia

Russia is holding a PwrIndx rating of 0.0791. Total military personnel of Russia is estimated at about 3,569,000 while the airpower total strength is 4,144, the second-highest among the 139 countries of the list. Russia has 13,000 tanks, a number that brings the country first place at the list regarding land forces. 

In the past two decades Russia has modernized their military. They also created new weapon platforms such as the 5th gen fighter aircrafts, air defence systems, and advanced cyber warfare capabilities. They have proven some of their weapons in Syria.

China

China is ranked 3 out of 139 countries holding a PwrIndx rating of 0.0854. Total military personnel of Russia is estimated at about 3,355,000 while the airpower total strength  is 3,260, the third-highest among the 139 countries of the list. Chine has 3,205 tanks, a number that brings the country 8th place at the list regarding land forces.

China's air and naval capabilities are catching up with the west. The country has successfully made 5th gen fighter aircrafts, aircraft carriers, nuclear powered submarines, and much more.

India

India comes 4th in the list holding a PwrIndx rating of 0.1207. The mighty Indian military is one of the top fourth powers in the world – though growing civilian unrest is shifting the focus within. Total military personnel of India is estimated at about 5,127,000 while the airpower total strength is 2,119, the 4th highest among the 139 countries of the list. India has 4,730 tanks, a number that brings the country 4th place at the list regarding land forces.

India has made some progress specially in domestically made weapons. And in recent times they have also demonstrated its capabilities of domestically built weapons by testing it multiple times.

Japan

Japan is ranked 5th out of 139 countries holding a PwrIndx rating of 0.1599. The country continues to look to the future and viable solutions to growing regional problems – namely the threat from North Korea. Total military personnel of Japan is estimated at about 319,000 while the airpower total strength  is 1,480, the 6th highest among the 139 countries of the list. Japan has 1,004 tanks, a number that brings the country 23st place at the list regarding land forces.

South Korea

For 2021, South Korea is ranked 6th out of 139 countries holding a PwrIndx rating of 0.1612. Total military personnel of South Korea is estimated at about 6,710,000 while the airpower total strength is 1,581 the 5th highest among the 139 countries of the list. South Korea has 2,600 tanks, a number that brings the country 12st place at the list regarding land forces.

 Under the ever-present threat of its unpredictable northern neighbor, South Korea manages a large and powerful military force.

France

France takes the 7th place of the list holding a PwrIndx rating of 0.1681.Total military personnel of France is estimated at about 450,000 while the airpower total strength is 1,057 the 8th highest among the 139 countries of the list. France has 406 tanks. 

United Kingdom

United Kingdom takes the 8th place of the list holding a PwrIndx rating of 0.1997.Total military personnel of United kingdom is estimated at about 275,000 while the airpower total strength is 738 the 15th highest among the 139 countries of the list.

Brazil

Brazil takes the 9th place of the list holding a PwrIndx rating of 0.2026. Total military personnel of Brazil is estimated at about 2,074,500 while the airpower total strength is 676 the 17th highest among the 139 countries of the list. Brazil has 439 tanks.

Pakistan

Pakistan takes the 10th place holding a PwrIndx rating of 0.2073.Total military personnel of Pakistan is estimated at about 1,704,000 while the airpower total strength is 1,364 the 7th highest among the 139 countries of the list. Pakistan has 2,680 tanks, a number that brings the country 11th place at the list regarding land forces.
